Finally, a break from work! Working 12-14 hour days and living out of a hotel non-stop is getting rough. Bo and I were able to jet away for a couple days to recharge. We decided to head south to the Southern Goa beaches of Cavelossim and Mobar. Known for its pristine white sand beaches and general "calmness" from the crowds, we were pretty pumped. We arrived at our hotel, Byke Old Anchor on Thursday morning. If you read some of the reviews, you'll wonder why we didn't read reviews before booking this place... our room was ... never mind. The mold, water stains on walls, fist-sized cockroaches that Bo smashed, stained couch. No, really, never mind. We'll spare you the details. We won't be staying here again, and we don't recommend you do either! We did slip away to the beach though, which was really lovely, despite the gangs of street dogs (they all look alike, by the way). Goa was colonized by the Portuguese, unlike the rest of India that was under British rule, and we're told the architecture really reflects the Portuguese style. Driving through the little villages I was enamored with all of the bright colored buildings and homes. Palm trees and fruit stands abound. Hard to capture the essence of Goa while zipping by, but here's a brief sample:

Zipping by or not, these are beautiful shots! Can't believe we have yet to get to Goa ourselves, but your photos make me long for it. But I'll put the Byke Old Anchor on our blacklist.

Glad you got there early after arriving in India. Goa is such a unique spot in the world. The Dutch influence is a nice change. To gaze upon the sea and not see humanity was a utter sense of calm relief for us after wending our way through Eastern India and finally arriving on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. Meg, your photos are wonderful! Keep 'em coming.
