For the long holiday weekend of Diwali, we decided to jet off to New Delhi. What an experience to fly into a city at night that was so lite up by Christmas lights and mini firework displays everywhere. You could almost hear the booming of crackers from the plane.
A coworker of mine lives in Delhi with his family. They invited us to their home Thursday night for some fire crackering. We raced from the airport to the hostel to drop off luggage then raced to his home (it really was racing as I think our driver was anxious to start his own festivities. Never have we seen such empty roads or driven that wild and fast before. Can't believe we survived...)
On our way to Aman's house our driver accidentally dropped his back tire into a 3 ft hole. No worries though, Bo and a nearby observer quickly lifted the car tire out of the hole and we were on our way!

Fire crackers on the roof, nevermind if they spill into the road or nearly light up the neighbors yard.
Driving the streets you'll see every family out lighting fire crackers in the narrow neighborhood streets. Several times our driver slammed on his breaks to avoid having a fire cracker light up under us. We sat in awe, bumping along the roads, looking at all the lights and excitement. An experience we'll never forget. |
