I just love my walk to work. This street always has so much to take in. I hide behind my sunglasses to help cover the reactions. On the inside I'm freaking out when I see donkeys or walk next to a cow. People brushing teeth and spitting in the street in front of me. Traffic weaving in and out. It is quite an experience and I'm constantly in awe that we live in India and get to experience this life. |
Our fascinating neighborhood - complete with cows, chickens, fish, unidentifiable meat hanging in store fronts and the occasional donkey meandering around. Potholes, garbage piles and the ever so often brush against traffic. It is going to be really sad going back to a neighborhood in MN where the most exciting thing you'll find is a dog on a leash. We think our neighbors run the local laundromat. The other day I saw someone standing at that black bin with just a towel around the waist, dripping wet. Street bath at the laundromat? Bring 2 laundry baskets for wash, get free bath? Won't you be my neighbor?

Thanks for the neighborhood tour. I love seeing the everyday life happening around a traveler. Sure, the palaces and groomed spots are pretty, but nothing gives you the sense of the locale by going local.

I so enjoy your, "I get to be here" attitudes.

I agree with Maya. I have to admit that my reaction was not as upbeat as yours, but I admire that that is the way you appreciate your experience on that road! We will never forget it and our time with you there! God's blessings on you both!

I remember one time arriving from India and crossing overland straight from San Francisco to Mpls. We were in culture shock. In that vast distance we hardly saw a human only cars. In Excelsior in winter no people on the streets...yes SHOCKED. Thanks for sharing how life with 1.2 billion people is like. So upbeat to glean what a thrill this is for you Megan... your special walk to work :)!
