Past experience has taught me that ideas dreamed up during casual conversation often fail to coalesce into reality. That is how I felt back in September when, for the first time, Sriharsha and his wife Gowri mentioned that they wished to give Megan and I a traditional Indian wedding. A real "traditional" Indian wedding would have lasted five days and included as many guests as our families could afford, even reaching into the thousands. Thankfully we were given the cliff's notes version of an Indian wedding with only eight guests, a short blessing by a Hindu priest, and many baffled onlookers. The crowd that gathered around us were tickled to see two pasty Americans in traditional dress observing traditional wedding rites. Many in the crowd were eager to participate and it became hard to push through the throng once the ceremony had ended. I think a lot of laughs were heard around Mysore dinner tables that night. We are so grateful to those eight guests that turned February 7th into a day we will always remember. Now when that bleak Minnesota month rolls around Megan and I can celebrate the warmth and love shared by a few in a far off land. A special thanks to Sriharsha and Gowri who both spent so much time, money, and energy turning a dream into reality. To all our guests, Sriharsha and Gowri, Rakshith and Sushma, Rony and Reenu, and the bachelor boys Ramesh and Viresh, you have given us something very special and we thank you. |
Gowri stayed close by to help translate what the priest was telling us to do. It was a very interesting experience. He recited several things in Sanskrit and had us sprinkle handfuls of rice and powder on a pile of leaves. For a brief moment, I panicked thinking he was going to make us eat the pile.

Very different from the ceremony I attended on Lake Minnetonka, but definitely a memorable event that I regret missing. Happy wishes to both of you and your Indian entourage.

The experiences that you two have been blessed with are priceless. Not to mention the work that is being done as well! Cherish these moments forever, you will have quite the novel to author in a few years of your: fantastic adventures, life lessons, and growth (mentally, physically, and spiritually). Enough to fill multiple editions!!! Take care of yourselves, and enjoy each journey that presents itself when you awake each morning!
